Kadambas of Hangal

Years: 980 - 1323

In 980 CE, descendants of Chalukyas and Kadambas rise against the Rashtrakutas and the Rashtrakuta empire falls, resulting in establishment of the second Chalukya dynasty (called Western Chalukyas).Chatta Deva, who has helped the Western Chalukyas in this coup, reestablished sthe Kadamba Dynasty.

He is largely a feudatory of the Western Chalukyas but his successors enjoy considerable independence and are almost sovereign rulers of Goa and Konkan until the 14th century.

The successors of Chatta Deva occupy both Banavasi and Hangal and are known as Kadambas of Hangal.

Uniting Banavasi and Hangal, Chatta Deva distinguishes himself against the Cholas and carves out a kingdom (which stretches up to Kolhapur).

He is referred to as having conquered Konkan.

When the Chalukyas under their king Jayasimha make an advance on Dhar (capital of the Malavas) and defea Bhoja, who is at this time the Paramara king, the part played by Chatta Deva) is significant.
