Indo-Parthians, Kingdom of the
Years: 12BCE - 100
The Gondopharid dynasty (Gandapur dynasty) and other Indo-Parthian rulers are a group of ancient kings from Central Asia, who rule parts of present day Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, during or slightly before the 1st century CE.
For most of their history, the leading Gondopharid kings hold Taxila (in Pakistani Panjab) as their residence, but during the last few years of their existence the capital shifts between Kabul and Peshawar(Gandahara).
These kings have traditionally been referred to as Indo-Parthians, as their coinage is often inspired by the Arsacid dynasty, but they probably belong to a wider groups of Iranian tribes who lived east of Parthia proper, and there is no evidence that all the kings who assume the title Gondophares, which means ”Holder of Glory”, are even related.
