Ikhshidid dynasty

Years: 935 - 969

The Ikhshidid dynasty of Egypt (sometimes transliterated other ways) rules from 935 to 969.

The dynasty carries the Arabic title "Wali" reflecting their position as governors on behalf of the Abbasids.

The first governor is Muhammad bin Tughj Al-Ikhshid, a Turkic slave soldier, who is installed by the Abbasid Caliph, giving him and his descendants the Wilayah for 30 years.

The last name Ikhshid is Sogdian for "prince", also given as title by the Caliph.

The dynasty comes to an end when the Fatimid army conques Fustat in 969.
