Iceland (Norwegian dependency)
Years: 1262 - 1396
The Icelandic Commonwealth lasts until the thirteenth century, when the political system devised by the original settlers proves unable to cope with the increasing power of Icelandic chieftains.
The internal struggles and civil strife of the Age of the Sturlungs leads to the signing of the Old Covenant in 1262, which ends the Commonwealth and brings Iceland under the Norwegian crown.
