Betsimisaraka confederation
Years: 1730 - 1791
An east coastal region of Madagascar, known as the Betsimisaraka confederation, and created by Ratsimilaho, said to be the son of an English pirate and a Malagasy queen, Antavaratra Rahena, covers400 hundred miles of coast.
The Betsimisaraka make up approximately fifteen percent of the Malagasy people and are the second largest group in Madagascar after the Merina.
