The Hoysalas had offered no help when the Pandya Jatavarman Sundara Pandyan I (1251–1268) moved northwards against the Cholas in 1264.
The Pandya army sacks the Chola capital in 1279, and overthrows Rajendra IV, the last king of the declining Chola dynasty; the Chola territories come under the total control of Pandyas.
