Years: 493BCE - 493BCE

Darius' fleet upon the suppression of the Ionian revolt in 493 appears off the Chersonese, and Miltiades loads five boats with his treasures and makes for Athens.

One of the boats, captained by Miltiades' eldest son, Metiochos, is captured. (He is taken as a lifelong prisoner to Persia, but Darius treats him honorably, marries him to a Persian princess, and regards their children as members of the Persian nobility.)
