The House of Representatives, led by Ways and Means Committee chairman James K. Polk, declares on April 4 that the Bank "ought not to be rechartered" and that the depositions "ought not to be restored."

It also votes to continue to allow pet banks to be places of deposit and votes even more overwhelmingly to investigate whether the Bank had deliberately instigated the panic.

Jackson calls the passage of these resolutions a "glorious triumph.

It essentially seals the Bank's demise.
