Years: 1272 - 1272

Thomas Aquinas had left Rome for a second Parisian period, where he had completed his greatest work, the Summa Theologiae.

The first part deals with the existence and nature of God and the universe he created, the second with human endeavors and ethics, and the third with Christ and the sacraments.

Thomas structures each part as a series of open questions, in answer to which he presents his opponents' arguments as well as his own before refuting the former.

Throughout the work, Thomas demonstrates his conviction that there can be no contradiction between the truths of Christian faith, based on divine revelation, and those of knowledge gained through human reason.
