Years: 1994 - 1994
The Saudi government deprives the exiled bin Laden of his citizenship on April 9, 1994 and freezes his assets in Saudi Arabia because of his support for Muslim fundamentalist movements. (Some sources say he was caught smuggling weapons into Saudi Arabia from Yemen, but bin Laden is not known to have been in Saudi Arabia since his departure in 1991.)
His family disavows him (although some of his 19 surviving brothers reportedly maintain contact with him). (Source: New York Times 4.10.94)
