The Red River War officially ends in …
Years: 1875 - 1875
June
The Red River War officially ends in June 1875 when Quanah Parker and his band of Quahadi Comanche enter Fort Sill and surrender; they are the last large roaming band of southwestern natives.
Combined with the extermination of the buffalo, the war leaves the Texas Panhandle permanently open to settlement by farmers and ranchers.
It is the final military defeat of the once powerful Southern Plains tribes and brings an end to the Texas–Indian Wars.
