The leaders of the Yugoslav Committee and representatives of the Serbian government-in-exile sign the Corfu Declaration of July 1917.

Calling for a single democratic South Slav state to be governed by a democratic, constitutional, and parliamentary monarchy under the Karageorgevic dynasty, the declaration promises equal recognition of the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets, the three national names and flags, and the three predominant religions.

It does not, however, indicate whether the new state will be centralized or federal.

Prime minister Nikola Pasic of Serbia advocates a centralized state; Ante Trumbic and other Dalmatian leaders press for a federation.
