The defeat at Grocka has had an enormous psychological impact at the Austrian Court.
After a series of resounding victories against the Ottomans under Eugene of Savoy, a short and victorious campaign had been expected again this time.
The unexpected defeat makes the Austrians eager for peace.
The Ottoman diplomats take advantage and obtain the very advantageous Treaty of Belgrade, signed on September 18.
1739, in which all Austrian conquests in the Balkans are returned, including Belgrade, northern Serbia (with the exception of the Banat) and parts of Wallachia.
Austria has paid a high price for neglecting to maintain an efficient army and to look for a worthy successor for Eugene of Savoy.
Fieldmarshal Wallis, charged with negligence, is court-martialed and condemned to imprisonment in the castle of Spielberg.
He will be released three months later, when he is pardoned by the new Empress Maria Theresa of Austria.
