The Austrians have direct orders from Emperor Charles VI to engage the enemy at the first possible opportunity.
The battle of Grocka, near Belgrade, commences on the morning of July 21 and lasts for the length of the day.
The Ottoman forces, better prepared and outnumbering their opponent, intend to resume fighting the next day, but the Austrians decide to retreat during the night.
However, the Ottomans follow them and the next day force the Austrians to surrender.
