The artistic career of Sophocles, the second …

Years: 468BCE - 468BCE

The artistic career of Sophocles, the second of the three ancient Greek tragedians whose work has survived to the present day, begins in earnest in 468 BCE, when he takes first prize in the Dionysia theater competition over the reigning master of Athenian drama, Aeschylus.

The production probably includes Triptolemus.

Although Plutarch says that this was Sophocles' first production, it is now thought that this is an embellishment of the truth and that his first production was most likely in 470 BCE.
