Champa’s King Jaya Indravarman III concludes a separate peace with Dai Viet in 1136, angering Suryavarman by his refusal to join the Khmer monarch in another expedition against the Vietnamese.

An attempted invasion of Norway by King Erik II of Denmark on behalf of Magnus IV, in which he manages to burn down Oslo, is unsuccessful.

Eric II of Denmark is known as a harsh king to his enemies.

In the summer of 1136, Eric undertakes a crusade against the pagan population on the Baltic island of Rügen and its capital Arkona.

He orders his men to dig a canal between the city and the rest of the island.

The canal has the effect of drying up the spring that supplies Arkona with drinking water.

Arkona is forced to surrender.

Al-Mustarshid not long after the siege of Damascus launches a military campaign against sultan Mas'ud of western Seljuq, who had obtained the title in Baghdad in January 1133 by the caliph himself.

The rival armies meet near Hamadan: the caliph, deserted by his troops, is taken prisoner, and pardoned on promising not to quit his palace any more.

Left in the royal tent, however, in the Sultan's absence, he is found murdered, as is supposed, by an emissary of the Hashshashins, who have no love for the Caliph.

Modern historians have suspected that Mas'ud instigated the murder although the two most important historians of the period Ibn al-Athir and Ibn al-Jawzi did not speculate on this matter.

Fulk, as regent for the heiress Constance of Antioch, had in 1135 sent envoys to offer her in marriage to Raymond, the younger son of William VII, count of Poitiers, who was then at the court of Henry I of England.

Raymond, then around thirty-seven, had arrived in Antioch in April 1136 and married the nine-year-old Constance, thereby becoming ruler of Antioch.

But Leo, with the help of Count Joscelin II of Edessa (who is his nephew), drives back the Antiochene army.

Triumphant, Leo agrees to have a personal interview with Baldwin of Marash, who treacherously makes him prisoner and sends him off to captivity in Antioch.

Fulk reconciles with his wife, and a second son, Amaury, is born in 1136.
