September
The Allies achieve the last great victory of the War of the Grand Alliance in the Spanish Netherlands: the retaking of Namur.
Coehoorn, in a role reversal of 1692, leads the attack on the town, defended by Louis-François, duke de Boufflers, who had become a marshal of France in 1693.
Eight thousand Frenchmen perish before Boufflers on September 5 finally surrenders the garrison.
