Years: 1136 - 1136
February
Stephen rapidly marches north with an army, and on February 5, 1136, reaches Durham with an imposing troop of Flemish mercenaries, and the Scottish king is obliged to negotiate.
The English king asks the Scottish king to make him oath of allegiance, but David has already sworn one with his niece Empress Matilda, heir to Henry I from whom Stephen has usurped the throne.
David asks his son Henry, to make the oath, in return for which he is made Earl of the Honour of Huntingdon and Northampton, which up to this point has been held by his father.
A temporary compromise is agreed.
David three years later will again invade the North of England.
