Sri Lankan power has gradually decayed following the reign of Parākramabāhu I. Kalinga Magha, a South Indian of uncertain origins, identified as the founder of the Jaffna kingdom, invades in 1215 and captures the Kingdom of Polonnaruwa with a twenty-four thousand-man army, sailing six hundred and ninety nautical miles on one hundred large ships from Kalinga.
Unlike the previous invaders, he loots, ransacks, and destroys beyond recovery everything in the ancient Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa Kingdoms.
