Years: 1844 - 1844
Konstantin Siegwart-Müller, elected on a wave of renascent clericalism to the Lucerne state council in 1841, by 1844 has become Schultheiss (chief magistrate) and, simultaneously, president of the Diet.
He presses for clericalist objectives—the readmission of the Jesuits to Lucerne and the restoration in Aargau of the eight monasteries that had been dissolved by the local government.
The Jesuits, whom the liberals detest, are invited to take charge of religious education in Luzern.
