Kara Koyunlu tribal federation leader Abu Nasr …

Years: 1412 - 1412
December

Kara Koyunlu tribal federation leader Abu Nasr Qara Yusuf, having taken control of Azerbaijan around 1406, launches an offensive against Ibrahim I (1382-1417) of Shirvanshah, who has struggled against the Timurids in Northern Azerbaijan.

Shirvan's former ally, the Karabakh ruler Yar Ahmed Qaramanli, sides with Abu Nasr Qara Yusuf, while Ibrahim joins his forces with the ruler of Shaki, Syed Ahmed Orlat and the Georgian king Constantine I, who marches at the head of two thousand Georgian cavalry to support the Shirvanese.

A major battle is fought at the village of Chalagan in December 1412 and ends in a decisive defeat of the allies.

Ibrahim and Constantine fall into the hands of their fierce enemy.

The Georgian king, his brother, and three hundred Georgian officers are beheaded by the orders of Qara Yusuf.

Ibrahim I escapes after paying a heavy indemnity; he will be able to return to Shirvan in spring 1413.

The victorious Qara Yusuf is able to secure his positions against the threats from north, and now focuses his attentions on capturing Baghdad.
