Ionian colonists from Sinope establish, probably in 756 BCE, the port of Trapezus (present Trabzon, formerly Trebizond) on the Black Sea in northeastern Anatolia, one of the most easterly of the ancient Greek settlements.
Like many other Black Sea sites, it is associated in legend with the Amazon women warriors.
