Saudi Arabia contributes only one battalion in the Arab-Israeli War of 1948.

Ibn Saud had joined the Arab League, but the king has not played a leading part in it since the religious and conservative element in Saudi Arabia opposes cooperation with other Arab states, even when Saudis share common views, as in opposition to Zionism.
