Guy has obtained the governorship of Cyprus, …
Years: 1193 - 1193
Guy has obtained the governorship of Cyprus, which he had bought from Richard after the Knights Templar had proven unable to pay Richard's price.
Calling himself lord of Cyprus, Guy invites families that had lost their lands in Palestine to settle in Cyprus, thereby laying the basis for a French-speaking feudal monarchy that will survive to the end of the Middle Ages.
Italian merchants assume an increasingly important role on the island.
