Years: 513BCE - 502BCE
Croton is strong enough for its people, led by Milo, to defeat the Sybarites and raze their city to the ground in 510 BCE.

Many smaller cities are allied to Croton at this time.

Reputed to have the finest physicians in the Greek world, Croton is especially celebrated for its successes in the Olympic Games from 588 BCE onward, Milo of Croton being the most famous of its athletes.

The philosopher Pythagoras had established himself there about 530 BCE and formed a society of three hundred disciples who are sympathetic toward aristocratic government.

The disciples of Pythagoras are driven out shortly after the sack of Sybaris, and a democracy is established in Croton.
