Years: 1969 - 1969
Cambodia’s Prince Norodom Sihanouk (r. 1941-1955; head of state from 1960) re-establishes relations with the US, charging Vietnamese Communists with aiding Cambodian rebels.
On May 9, 1969, the New York Times reports that the US is conducting bombing raids in Cambodia.
Up to this point, keeping the raids secret has involved the sending of sets of false reports of Vietnamese targets to the Pentagon through the usual Air Force channels while parallel sets of highly classified reports contain the real target lists.
During and after the secret US bombing and invasion of Cambodia from 1969 through 1975, two million will die amid starvation and political chaos.
