Another battle is fought in 1102 at Ramlah, with remnants of the Crusade of 1101, including Stephen, Count of Blois, William IX, Duke of Aquitaine, and Hugh VI of Lusignan.
Baldwin, due to faulty reconnaissance, has underestimated the size of the Egyptian force and rides to battle with only five hundred mounted knights to meet an army of several thousand.
Many of the Christain knights, realizing their king's error too late and already cut off from escape, charge into the heart of the Egyptian lines and are slaughtered, but Baldwin and some survivors newly arrived from Europe are able to barricade themselves in Ramla's single tower.
